Many people don’t know the full name of Shakira, which is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll. She is originally from Columbia but is known all over the world right now for her pop singing and song writing. She has sung in many languages in including Latin, English and Spanish. Her belly dancing has become one of her trademarks in the music industry and has made her very famous around the globe.
Songwriting and composing are among many another skills she possesses. She often writes and composes her own songs. She discovered her incredible talents at a very early age. When Shakira was only 8 years old she started writing and composing her music and reached a celebrity status at just 13 years of age. It that tender age of 13, she produced her 1st album called Magia in 1991. Sony Columbia was the company who signed a record deal and then released her debut album. The album did not do well because it lacked production and recording cohesion.
After that experience, Shakira decided to take a break from music and focused on her studies and completed her high school. However, Shakira could not stay away from music for long and in 1995, she returned. Pies Descalzos was the name of her next album and this album was a big hit. After the success of this album she was not only a commercial success but became popular in music circle. She sold 5 million copies all over the world. This was however just the start of Shakira’s popularity. With the passage of time she quickly became the sensation around the world with the release of her music videos. In these videos her belly dancing caught the eye of every viewer. Her Latin music was spreading like wild fire and she started recording in English language as well.
The English version of her album was released in 2001, which was also an instant hit. Her 1st English album was called Laundry Service. This album sold millions of CDs worldwide, over 13 million to be precise. This album included super hit songs like Whenever Whereever, Te Dejo Madrid, Underneath your clothes, Objection and The One. The huge commercial success of this album never seemed to stop and even today these songs are liked and listened to at pubs and parties alike.
Shakira got engaged to the son of former president of Argentina, Fernando de la Rua but it did not seem to last long. Today, Shakira is believed to be seen with popular Spanish International footballer, Gerard Pique 24.
Shakira has made music in many genres including Latin pop, pop, dance, world, electronic, pop rock and alternative rock. This also shows her talent and versatility. She is a pure musician and able to play many instruments like guitar, harmonica and drums.
